What does the Hive do?

What does the Hive do?

Here's what we've been up to lately…

• Renovating our future home in the historic gas-o-meter building at 150 Manton Avenue in Olneyville into community studio and exhibition space.

• Presenting the national exhibition, “ VOICE : Women in Contemporary Art”, juried by Kara Walker , at the Providence Art Club in May 2006. Over 450 artists from around the country applied and 25 are featured in the show

• Sponsoring Magdalena USA -International Festival for Women in Contemporary Theatre, the first manifestation of The Magdalena Project (an international association of women theatre artists) in the United States in Providence , RI , Summer 2005.

• Partnering with Encyclomedia Press who produce The Encyclopedia Project, a groundbreaking literary and visual experience in five volumes in which 50% of each volume's contributors are people of color. Like the traditional encyclopedia, The Encyclopedia Project spans A-Z, but the contents combine the creative possibilities of a literary journal with the stunning four-color imagery of an artist's portfolio.

Hot off the press!! The Hive was recently featured on the PBS television show Rhode Island 's Amazing Women with Judith Tannenbaum, Curator of Contemporary Art at the RISD Museum .
